To explore the upper level, you basically have to go outside and either dig a side-shaft into the cliff, or go to the top level of wherever you are dig down umpteen layers until you hit the layer one-above the one you're currently on. Not being able to do this effectively means it's impossible to explore "upwards", only downwards. If it works fine, what's the procedure for digging up from your current level into a unknown level above? This should be possible, as the tooltip implies that it is. The dig-tool works fine? Really? I feel like I need to come around with hacky work-arounds just to get things done. Really the dig tool just needs to issue a different order for each level depending on whether it has already been dug or not.

You cannot dig up either, because while the upper layer is not yet dug, the current layer has been. Thus you cannot construct a stair up into the ceiling, because the current level is dug (fine) but the next level is not. The new stair tools have an edge case: the dig stair tool only works if every level is undug, and the construct stair tool only works if every level is already dug. Stairs are working fine, but you can find reams of people yelling about the new stair tools. Make sure your hunters have quivers and ammunition, and try manufacturing new ammunition. Slaughtering can be done by going to the list of animals and choosing which ones you want to be slaughtered, rather than by assigning the task through the workshop. Apparently that helps some people.īutchering happens automatically when there is a suitable non–rotten corpse in a nearby refuse stockpile. Others have reported problems involving ammunition, though mostly they are talking about crossbow squads rather than hunters. I have to then go back upstairs and "construct stairs". Which works, but they don't appear on the lower level (square just looks empty). I have to go up to the next level, the dig-stairs down.

Even if the square above is not hidden, I still can't either dig-stairs up or construct stairs up. Stairs are all bugged-out, right? I can dig-stairs down okay, but if I try and dig them-up (which according to the tooltip, should be an option), it says the square is "hidden" (that doesn't stop them going down). Even when food is at 0! My dwarfs would rather starve than slaughter a goose. How do I slaughter a farm animal? I have a bunch of geese (in a "pen/stable" zone), and a butcher shop right next to it, and a work-order set-up to butcher animals. Even when wild (tame) buffalo wander into the middle of the fortress! Even when food is dangerously low! They just wander past with cross-bow in-hand doing nothing and "no job" - and never seem to go outside actually looking for prey.Ģ. Even when I have a dwarf assigned to hunting work, with a green tick, and even after he/she has gone and armed themselves with a crossbow, they never actually hunt anything. I've tried to figure them both out for ages, but can't.
